The Career Readiness Academy, CRA, held its 6th session at Evans Distribution Systems on April 28th, 2017. The CRA is a mentoring program, hosted by the Detroit Economic Club, that helps high school students prepare for their futures. Each participating high school is paired with a few DEC Young Leaders who mentor the students for six months. During these mentoring sessions, students learn how important personal brand is and the various careers they can pursue.
Sean Mueller, Director of Customer Solutions at Evans Distribution Systems, has been participating in the CRA for the past two years and always plans a visit at Evans with his group. This year he brought a group of students from Melvindale High School. At this visit, the students met with different levels of management such as Leslie Ajlouny – Vice President of Business Development, Katie Albring – Controller, and Derek Byrd – Marketing Manager.
The students were then given a tour of the operation which was led by Chris Mendez, Operations Manager. They were educated about the different customers that Evans partners with such as Ryder, Diageo, and Girl Scouts. The students were very excited to see all the pallets of Girl Scout Cookies!
It was a great opportunity for these students to learn how one of the largest companies in their hometown of Melvindale operates on a daily basis.
