Most people at Evans Distribution Systems have met Lou Swejkowski and know about his great work ethic. Lou has been Evans’ exclusive electrician for 38 years. After decades of excellent service, Lou is retiring. His first day on the job was March 5, 1985 changing photocells on dock door 68.
“I knew on that very first day this was going to be a long-term relationship,” he says. After all these years, Lou has seen every inch of Evans’ buildings, especially the Melvindale facility.
“I know this building inside and out. I’ve done everything—built offices, laid concrete, and maintained building signs,” he says.
But, Lou says his most memorable project was re-wiring the Melvindale office and warehouse. It was a huge undertaking that took him months to complete. ”It was deeply satisfying to see the building become more energy efficient.”
Lou didn’t start out as an electrician. He began as a sheet metal fabricator. His father-in-law was the first to suggest that he become an electrician. “It was a very good decision,” he says. “I love what I do.”
Lou is looking forward to retiring alongside his wife in Gladwin, Michigan. They built their Northern Michigan cabin from the ground up 35 years ago. They have many friends to enjoy the great outdoors with. “I enjoy ice fishing, pontoon boating and hunting. I’m also in a bowling league with six other couples.”
When Lou’s son invited Evans employees to the retirement party, many jumped to the chance to give him a proper send off. “My experience working at Evans is like a marriage. Everyone has treated me like family since day one.”
Congratulations Lou! You will be missed.
