Doretha Hurt has driven for Merchants Forwarding Company, a subsidiary of Evans Distribution Systems, for two years. The Memphis-based operation provides switching and yard management services at a General Motors plant. Doretha began her driving career in 2014, after watching her brother-in-law become a driver. “I remember walking as a little girl and waving at the trucks. As they passed the drivers would blow the horn back at me.”
Doretha is responsible for keeping order in the yard as shipments go in and out. As a driver, she understands the importance of driving safely and always paying close attention to her surroundings. Her favorite part of the day is getting her work done like the rest of us! Her dream is to own and run a transportation company one day.
On a more personal level, Doretha is a risk-taker! She enjoys riding her motorcycle in her free time. Not only does she enjoy being on her bike, but she also has skydiving on her bucket list! She has two sons, ages 25 and 29 years old.
We asked Doretha what advice she would give to someone new in her profession. “Never give up, no matter what happens. We must keep pushing and moving forward.”
